So I've decided to move this blog to a new location. Nothing against Blogger...in fact I'll still use Blogger for some other client's online needs, but for me it's time to move. I need to have a blog format that people can subscribe to. Sorry Blogger...it's been fun...you never know...I might be back...
Here's a link to my new location if you would like to continue following.
Oddball Productions is celebrating 10 years of helping artists get their music heard, so the month of November my Throwback Thursday videos will be dedicated to the bands I've worked with over the past 10 years. This week's throwback is from The Apresnos. Not only was "Boots" a great song, but guitarist Will helped me fix the brakes on my vehicle this past weekend. Thanks Will!

The Starbucks Red
Cup Christmas Controversy is ridiculous. I don’t even know how someone could
come up with such a ridiculous theory…unless that someone was already drinking
out of a red cup if you know what I mean.
Here’s some random
thoughts I came up with about the Red Cup controversy.
When you mix the
letters from “Red Cup” around it spells…nothing.
Someone call
Indiana Jones, we found the cup of Christ, the Holy Grail…It’s at Starbucks,
red and has nothing to do with Christmas (aside from being Red).
When you order
your drink at Starbucks they write you name on it with a black Sharpie. When at
a social gatherings you’re encouraged to write your name on your Red Solo Cup
with a Sharpie so that you don’t loose it. Coincidence?
Do you think that
thanks to the Starbuck Red Cup Christmas Controversy Toby Keith’s “Red Solo
Cup” will get played a lot more over the coming weeks?
Toby Keith just
released a new album in Oct, could this be a publicity stunt to draw more
attention to Toby Keith?
Does Starbucks
like Toby Keith?
Could there be a
secret partnership between Starbucks and Toby Keith to market Toby Keith to the
coffee drinking audience?
Does Toby Keith
hate Jesus?
Donald Trump
suggested we boycott Starbucks due to the Red Cups…does Donald Trump hate Toby
Keith?
Glee covered Toby
Keith’s “Red Solo Cup” and no one complained about that…they just complained
about Glee being Glee (are we allowed to joke about Glee again yet?)
Did I drink a
little too much out of my own red solo cup before writing this…

In September I featured videos from some of my favourite artists that I worked with during my time with BMG. That seemed to go over pretty well, so I decided to extend it to this month, but with a slight difference.
For the month of Oct I will not only be featuring music from my BMG days, but the music will be from artists that we (BMG Team) were introduced to but that was pretty much it. In some cases the album was only released as an 'import' in other case, nothing was released at all.
This week's throwback is to a band called American Pearl. Their debut album was actually released by Wind-Up which was distributed by Sony (pre-BMG merger) in Canada, but in the U.S. Wind-Up had a deal with BMG for distribution and because of that American Pearl was one of the bands showcased at the BMG National Conference. We got to see a full live show with them and Corrosion Of The Conformity (another band we weren't going to be distributing in Canada). For me this showcase was probably the biggest tease.
Never saw much about American Pearl after the conference aside from having a track on the Scream 3 sound track.
Started a new weekly feature last week "Stuff I Shared With Alan Cross or (via Danny)"...this week I decided to rename the feature. Cross Contributions
What's this feature all about? For a while now I've been forwarding a variety of music related articles, videos, posts, etc to Alan Cross, some of which he has in turn posted on his "A Journal Of Musical Things" website.
If you regularly follow Alan Cross, you may have seen some of my submissions. My contributions have always included a (via Danny) at the end.
If you don't follow Alan Cross, well that also part of the reason why I'm going to start posting stuff on my blog as well.

For all of these, I remember watching official music videos, but when I decided to do this theme, I couldn't find the official original video on YouTube.
So here's the next artist and song in this series of Throwback Thursday music selections...
Tarsha Vega "Be Your Self" - for this artists I remember getting the CD single, seeing the video, she may have even been showcased at one of the BMG conferences I attended. We never saw anything officially released by her after that...maybe it was available as an import. The song ended up on the Rocky & Bullwinkle Soundtrack though...
Okay...so today is the date that Marty McFly goes to in the future in the Back To The Future trilogy. Oct 21st, 2015.
I've already seen a lot of posts pointing out the obvious things that were shown in the movie that we don't have today. Flying cars. Hover boards. Etc.
There is actually a very simple explanation as to why we don't have any of these technological advances today. An explanation that is actually given in the movie.
The whole premise of the movie series is when travelling through time, your actions in the past can have ramifications on the future.
In the future, Marty isn't working at his dream job. We actually see Marty get fired from his future self's job. We later find out that Marty's future life isn't what he dreamed it would be, thanks to a car accident Marty got in after being called a chicken. It was in this accident where he hurt his form arm or wrist I believe. It's this injury that impacted Marty's life moving forward.
In the third movie, we get to see the scenario develop which leads to the accident where Marty make his live changing injury, only instead of socuming to the rival racer's chicken taunts. When the light turns green, Marty does not participate in race and we get to see where the accident would've happen had he participated.
Marty avoiding the accident then would've changed his life moving forward. But, as we also learn in the movie series when you change something in the past, it not only changes your future, it also impacts everyone else's future.
So that being said...Marty avoiding the car accident would've changed the future we saw in the second film. And because more than just Marty's life would've been impacted by this, there is a chance that this change could have lead to the individuals who invented the Hover Board or the technology that made cars fly taking different paths in life and never achieving these technological advances.
You want to know why we don't have hover boards today...it's because Marty didn't race.
Now typically my blogs are music related, so for anyone hoping for some music reference....

Continuing with the theme of looking back on my time with BMG Music... I was a fan of Butch Walker LONG before I even started working with BMG. In University I got an opportunity to interview him and the Marvellous 3 for the University news paper and even earlier than that I was a member of his band Southgang's fan club. Turns out I was the only fan club member from Saskatchewan (we found out during the Marvellous 3 interview). So needless to say, I was pretty excited to hear that BMG was going to be releasing Butch Walker's first solo CD.
Continuing with the theme of looking back on my time with BMG Music... Another great band, both live and to work with was Stereophonics. The band is still around and just recently released a new CD. Make sure you check it out.
For the month of Sept I thought I'd focus on some specific artists from a specific time in my life, so for the next couple of weeks my throw backs will be to my time with BMG and some of my favourite artists and tracks that I worked with. Skrape seemed like a fitting video to post this week, as I was at a music workshop this week and actually used them as an example when were discussing branding. Probably one of my favourite bands from the BMG days that hardly anyone has heard of...(also one of the grossest album covers ever...see below)

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are starting to give KISS a run for their money when it comes to merchandise with their name on it. Going through the Rider's online catalog found these somewhat unique items...
Yes...that is a Saskatchewan Roughrider Sink Plug... But then I came across these ones which seem to be going a little far...
Kickoff Krunch Cereal...
Game Day Pancake Mix...
Championship Cola...(which obviously isn't something the fans will be drinking this year...)
I did Google "Rider Coffin" and other similar funeral supply related items, but nothing came up so KISS still has the title of least classy merch item...
Continuing with my belief that Tuesday are still "New Music Day" (although this week I was a day or two late...but trust me, the intent was there) here's the latest 'episode' of Eight Days A Week, where I showcase 8 new tracks I heard in the last week.
Here's the track listing (and some comments) for this episode of Eight Days A Week...
Sevendust - Not Today
Trivium - Until The World Goes Cold
Like A Storm - Become The Enemy
Red Sun Rising - Amnesia
Bulletboys - Rollover (I never said all the songs would be good...)
Diemonds - Never Wanna Die
Marmozets - Why Do You Hate Me?
Hell Or Highwater - I'll Be Waiting (Brandon Saller from Atreyu's side project)
Going to do something a little different this Throwback Thursday. On a whim I decided to search for my old band on YouTube and found these two promo videos we put together for our reunion show...

Buckcherry - Tight Pants

Pigeon Park - Break Me
TesseracT - Messenger
Queensryche - Arrow Of Time
The Winery Dogs - Oblivion (featuring Billy Sheehan, Mike Portnoy and Richie Kotzen)
Sabaton - Metal Crue (this song technically came out in 2006 but I only heard it for the first time this past week)
There seems to be a growing number of videos set to Drowning Pool's "Bodies" appearing on YouTube...here's just a couple...which one is your favourite;
As some of you may already know from some of my posts, I'm not a big fan of the recent change within the music industry moving 'new release/new music' day from Tuesday to Friday. Since the change has happened I have forgotten new music is available on almost every Friday it has been and every Tuesday since the change I have been disappointed that there is no new music to listen to. If you're feeling the same way, then Eight Days A Week is something you might want to follow and listen to. Not only is it a play list of 8 songs I heard for the first time that week, but moving forward I will do my best to post the latest 'episode' on Tuesday so everyone who misses it, can get their new release fix. Yes, I know today is Wednesday...I just came up with this idea last night. Give me a break. Here's the track listing (and some comments) for this episode of Eight Days A Week... Annihilator - Suicide Society Conniption - Let The Wolf Out 3 Years Hallow - Chemical Ride Bon Jovi - We Don't Run Operation: Mindcrime - Re: Inventing The Future (Geoff Tate from Queensryche's new band) Tank - Valley Of Tears Iron Maiden - Speef Of Light
More shocking than the fact that after all this time Columbia House, the subscription service famous for offering 13 records for $1, is finally shutting down is probably the fact that after all this time Columbia House is shutting down! At first I thought this may have been a Throwback Tuesday post, but nope. This JUST happened. So I'd like to take a quick moment to say Kudos! to Columbia House. In an era of the music industry were we have seen many music retailers close their doors, Columbia House lasted a lot longer than most. And that's with the countless number of people who didn't full-fill the subscription agreement, never paid for the CDs/Cassettes/Records, or committed mail fraud by making up a name and signing up. I'm looking at you "Jerry Hammersmith". Then there's my all time favourite, my high school class mate who signed up and then wrote deceased on the invoice and mailed just the invoice back. I wonder if this means the people that owed them money, their debts are now cleared? CLICK HERE to read the full story on the demise of Columbia House.
Lenny Kravitz's 'wardrobe malfunction' was pretty much headline news this past week and in all the coverage I noticed something, an obvious double standard.
When covering the incident female news anchors (the ones that I saw covering the story) reported it as a positive story. Some of which were genuinely excited about the 'wardrobe malfunction', going as far as to allude to how easy it is to find the unedited pictures online, bragging that they not only already saw the photos but enjoyed what they saw.
So what would happen if the roles were reversed? What if a female celebrity had a 'wardrobe malfunction' that was caught on video and there were pictures posted about it and a male anchor reported it as positive news encouraging viewers to go find the pictures online? That actually happened a while back when a variety of female celebrity selfies were leaked out on the internet. Did you see any of the male or female anchors reporting on the story suggesting people check them out online or allude to how good the pictures were? This story was reported in a completely different fashion. Private nude photos of Jennifer Lawrence, Victoria Justice, Kate Upton and more getting leaked out onto the internet wasn't just referred to as a scandal, but was even called a sex crime and many even went as far as to say if you searched out and looked at these leaked pictures you too were committing a sex crime against these celebrities. I'm not disagreeing with that. Those actress had every right to be upset about those pictures being leaked and I think the media and others condemning the leaking of the photos was commendable...although one could argue that simply by reporting it they caused just as much damage as the people who leaked the photos...but that's a discussion for another blog. So why wasn't the same approached used when the photos of Lenny Kravitz 'wardrobe malfunction' started getting shared on the internet? Some might argue "He's a guy so it's different"...even going as far as to say "He was proud of the pictures". Do we assume that because he's a guy he is okay with his man parts being on display on the internet? Turns out Lenny wasn't happy about it. He's threatening to take legal action. (CLICK HERE for more details on that) When the Jennifer Lawrence and company's photos were leaked we were told we were committing a sex crime against these women if we searched out and looked at the leaked photos. Should that same standard not be upheld for Lenny Kravitz? And if yes, now that Lenny Kravitz is talking about legal action, claiming a 'breach of human rights' will the reporters and anchors who commented positively about the ordeal and encouraged people to seek out the photos online be disciplined? Will they apologize for contributing to this breach of human rights? As a side note, you may have noticed that I did not post any specific name of the offending individuals or links to clips of them making these comments. Why? Because I felt that if I posted their names or pointed you to or shared links to where you can see them make these comments it would be hypocritical and I'd be no different than them.
